Diamonds in brown paper
1988
This drama documentary examines the lives of "Buffers" the women who work polishing cutlery and silver in the "Sheffield Trade." Early in the 20th Century there were thousands of these women who were a common site in the streets of Sheffield with their dirty "buff-brats" and aprons and leggings made of brown paper. The film was made with the help of buffers and cutlery workers and follows a group of buffers from 1928 to 1988.
